MudShark 2.0 – The Exciting Boring Upgrade

February 15th, 2013

Free to all customers with software assurance MudShark 2.0 introduces exciting new features including multiple borings, 64 bit, imperial units, clearer plan reading, contour checking  and a more refined solid modelling calculation engine. All adding up to even more precise earthwork estimating.

Far from Boring

Are you calculating projects where soil or rock thickness is irregular across your site? Ever found yourself wanting more accuracy from your excavation calculations? With version 2 of MudShark your earthwork estimations will be more accurate then ever with our multiple boring solid modelling. Quickly define and plot (or plot then define) as many boring points as your site needs. Giving you precise 3D solid volumes in a fraction of the time of manual calculation.

Cut And Fill Estimating

Modelling complex dissipating soil stratum is a snap.

Strip away multiple layers of irregular volumes of soil.

64 Bit – Bigger better faster.

View more plans, estimate larger projects, enjoy faster calculations. If you are working on the cutting edge you need software that can keep up with your hardware. MudShark 64 Bit runs as a true 64 Bit application if you are running the 32 bit MudShark software on a 64 bit operating system; now is the time to change.

Clearer raster Plan reading

On lower end systems some PDF and raster files could be inserted a little blurry causing issues for some of our users. Plans will come in much clearer in MudShark 2.0 even on machines that your phone might put to shame.

Validate your contour input before calculating

Check Contours function highlights common input errors for contours.

Imperial Units

We like to think of ourselves as an international company and now people in the USA, Liberia and Myanmar can perform take off in feet and get volume results in cubic yards. Whether your company works exclusively in imperial units or only dabbles, any MudShark 2.0 project can be opened in either metric or imperial.

Buildsoft and MudShark integration

October 17th, 2012

BrightBox Software are happy to announce that Buildsoft have linked their range of construction estimating and take-off software to our earthwork software. Users of the latest versions of Offsider Estimating, Global Estimating and BT2 are able to quickly import the most useful information from MudShark, inserting your cut and fill results directly into your estimate.

Now you can more easily use your solid modelling MudShark results in Buildsoft. Instantly importing:

  1. Cut and fill volumes
  2. Structure results
  3. Site area

This means less take off and quicker more accurate estimating for you.

This link was developed by Buildsoft built on top of MudShark’s new data sharing framework. If you’d like to experience the power of solid modelling earthworks estimation in your estimating software of choice please contact us or have a look at this post to get more information.

This integration is available in MudShark version 1.1 or later.

What’s new in MudShark 1.1

September 13th, 2012

Free to all customers the MudShark 1.1 update offers you more features with less bugs. Download, install and enjoy the improvements now.

Please note that a side effect of fixing a security issue means that upon running the update for the first time you will need to re-enter your activation key. We apologise for this; normally you would not need to enter your key for an update. Having said that we believe the benefits of MudShark 1.1 vastly outweigh this inconvenience.

While this update definitely doesn’t include the kitchen sink (or other inappropriate household appliances) we have made improvements to a number of important areas that should help you to enjoy using MudShark even more.

Select and you’re almost there

Zoom To Selected items

Zooming to selected items makes it a breeze to find even the smallest of items in the largest of sites.

Improved Plan aligning

Nobody likes preparation work so we tried to make it easier. You can  Rotate by any angle, rotate about the centre of the plan, and our Auto Move on insert functionality makes it easier to work with plans that are located away from the origin point.

Custom Rotate Window

Rotate selected Plans by any angle.

Even nicer to strangers

A new developer interface for other applications to interact with MudShark and reuse your results.

Auto Deactivate

MudShark just got easier to share amongst large teams. You can optionally select to have MudShark automatically deactivate your floating licences when you are finished with them.

Delete Projects

You can now Delete Projects by pressing the delete key in the Open Project window.

And more…

Scenic Helicopter flythrough; 3D mouse support

June 26th, 2012

BrightBox is pleased to announce support for 3Dconnexion’s 3D mice. Now you can navigate and explore your cut and fill project easier than ever.  Instead of clicking your traditional mouse or using keyboard commands you can gently move the 3D mouse controller cap to simultaneously  pan, zoom, and rotate the camera view. In this way you can fly through your cut and fill in the 3D view like a helicopter to inspect any detail.

Combine MudShark with a 3D mouse for navigation and a traditional mouse for take off and you have a powerful set of tools for Earthworks.

Come see us at DesignBUILD 2012

June 26th, 2012

BrightBox Software will be at DesignBUILD this week showcasing our next generation excavation software MudShark. If you are attending come drop by stand J49, have a look and say hi to Martin and Pat.

MudShark Unleashed

June 26th, 2012

BrightBox Software is excited to announce the world wide release of MudShark. Using MudShark, estimators; quantity surveyors and earthwork contractors can calculate precise earthwork and substructure volumes easier than ever before.

MudShark uses solid modelling to calculate volumes for cut, fill, stripping, respread and substructure quantities. All take off and calculated results are explorable in a fully interactive 3D environment.  Results are broken down by materials and locations with export to Microsoft Excel, Image, CAD and 3D print files. Find out more about What MudShark is and Why MudShark is right for you.

Years of research and development have been undertaken to streamline the process of estimation enabling you to pick up the software and be productive with little to no training. And our flexible licencing will mean we can tailor fit a package that will suite your needs.

Prices are available on our new website or from our resellers. You can buy the software directly from us and our resellers or from our website.
